SURVEY LOG — run 12 (I don't number a run 13)
Rig: "Nettle." Nav: "Prosper." Both behaving.

D+04 Off the last beacon by choice. Corvid's money,
my hunch. The rig found a return three runs back
that did not belong to anything charted and I have
not stopped thinking about it since.

D+09 Got the return again, cleaner. It is not a rock
and it is not a ghost in the sensor. Consistent
bearing, consistent signature, and it sits where
nothing should sit. I ran the arithmetic twice
because I never trust the first pass. The numbers
hold. Something is out there and it is regular,
and regular means made or means a law I don't
have yet. Either one clears the ledger forever.

D+11 Closer. The signature does the one thing a natural
source never does. It is TOO tidy. I am not saying
what I think it is because if I write it down I will
believe it, and a surveyor who believes is a surveyor
who stops checking. So I keep checking. It stays
      too tidy.

D+12 They came at D+12. Not the anomaly. Men.
They boarded like they had the schematic. They did
not talk, they did not miss, they moved through
Nettle's berth straight to the hold like they were
grown to do exactly that. They took the claim, the
log's primary, the ship's teeth. They left me
Prosper and this backup only because they never
      found it.

They did not go and look at the anomaly. They knew
what I had and they did not want to SEE it. They
wanted it gone from anyone else's hands. That is
the part I cannot put down.

—— everything after here is me, no instruments ——

I know what the readings were. I have Eidetic Memory,
I could not lose them if I tried. The bearing is in my
head. The signature is in my head. It was real, it was
too tidy to be nothing, and someone spent a boarding
crew to make sure I was the only one left holding it,
and then they made sure I was broke and running so no
one would believe me if I said it.

The find is still out there. I am the only one who saw
it clean. That is worth more than the debt. It is worth
more than my name. It is my name.
