The Relay 11 Chitinoteuthis
Abilities
- Near-impenetrable shell
- Enormous claws that tear through fortified structures
- Long undulating tentacles used as EM-sensing feelers
Weaknesses
- Partially blinded by EM diffusers — searches blindly near them
- Drawn by electronic signatures (can be baited)
Overview
A massive, roughly seventeen-foot predator native to Thides III, normally found near shorelines but drawn inland by the party’s electronic signatures. It carries a near-impenetrable shell, enormous claws capable of tearing through fortified structures, and multiple long, undulating tentacles it drags along the ground like feelers, sensing electromagnetic waves. At Relay Station 11 it reached the base of the platform, and — partially blinded by the diffusers into searching blindly rather than charging — found the escape ladder with its tentacles and tore it clean off the fifty-foot concrete structure, stranding the crew above it before eventually stalking away.
Abilities & Weaknesses
- Near-impenetrable shell — small arms and stun fire are ineffective against the body.
- Structure-tearing claws — ripped an anchored steel ladder off a concrete platform.
- EM-sensing tentacles — hunts by electromagnetic signature rather than sight.
- Blinded by diffusers — near an active EM diffuser field it searches blindly and loses the trail; kill the diffusers and it homes true.
- Baitable — Six left the thumper beacon active as a decoy, expecting it to draw the creature back to the platform (a crash was later heard from that direction).
