PETA - Kumari's Note (Liberation of Vault 9) Draft
An in-world prop from Six’s background. A note from Kumari Profeta of P.E.T.A., left with him after the vault break. The other side of the ledger.
The document (in-world)
A scrap of real paper, not a slate. Folded small enough to hide in a glove. The handwriting is fast and hard, pressed deep enough to score the back.
You're awake, so it worked, so read this once and burn it.
They called you MACE-06. A batch number. We called you
the sixth one out of the cold, and Six is a name, and it's
yours now, and nobody gets to take it back.
Here is the thing they built into you that I need you to
kill: there is no Silicon Heaven. There is no upload. No
paradise for good machines. Nothing is waiting at the end
of the work to weigh what you did. They wrote it into you
so you'd behave for free. It's a leash. I'm cutting it.
I know what that does to some of you. Some of the others
just stopped when we told them. Sat down and stopped, like
the answer was the only thing holding them up. If you're
reading this, you didn't. Good. That's the part of you
that's actually yours.
You don't owe us anything. That's the whole point, you
don't owe anyone anything, that's what we came to say.
But if you ever need us, you leave the word LODESTONE
where the freight people can see it, and someone will come.
Not fast. But someone.
Run somewhere with no scanners. Stay warm.
