Overview

An engraved timepiece found on the dresser of the right bedroom of Room 2002 — the untouched one, the one the cleaners had no reason to enter. Alongside it lay three Goodwin Investments business cards, which is what marks the room as Peter Goodwin’s.

The inscription reads:

Thanks for your help with the union. Róbert.

Róbert Jeanes is a member of The Bamboo Union, the dockers’ union operating out of Aethel Starport in the Eris System — and the union is a major client of Goodwin Investments. The watch is a thank-you gift passing between a union man and the financier who handles the union’s money.

For the crew’s purposes it does two things. It confirms which bedroom was Goodwin’s, which is what makes the other bedroom’s scrubbing mean something. And it hands them a name outside the Thides System that connects their wealthy visitor to organised interests in the Eris System.
