Overview

Two fragments of unidentified material, each roughly six inches across, carved by Six from the alien-side wall of the Kinetic Logistics Container in the final seconds before it vanished. As the corrosive ooze closed in and the countdown ran toward zero, Six went into a rapid zero-G spinning technique with his vibro-axe, cutting the material free rather than letting it disappear along with everything else in the crate.

The material showed a property none of the crew had ever encountered: cut into it, and it began to slowly knit itself back together. Six kicked one fragment out into open space, where the security intercept team recovered it during his own pickup, and kept the second on him as he thruster-jumped clear of the container.

Both fragments made it back to the station. Following the debrief, station security confiscated them and sent them to Maintenance Chief Zigurds Sloan for analysis — making these two chunks the only surviving physical evidence of whatever was really happening inside Processing II, since the container itself, the Mysterious Relay, and everything else went with it into the vortex.
