Kinetic Logistics Container

Current Holder: none — lost (see Appearances)

Origin: Found sealed in the mothballed Processing II cargo bay, marked with a 'Kinetic Logistics' shipping logo

Overview

A standard shipping container, marked with a “Kinetic Logistics” logo, found sitting in an otherwise empty four-slot cargo rack in the loading area of the mothballed Processing II. Three of the four slots were empty; this one had clearly seen recent use despite the sector’s sensors and cameras being offline and its blast door welded shut — welds that turned out to have been cut and covertly resealed more than once.

Inside, the container was split into two halves. One side held ordinary human communications equipment — racks of wiring and terminals, hastily but competently assembled. The other side was something the crew had no name for: technology that looked grown into the container wall rather than bolted to it, covered in symbols none of them recognized. A countdown timer on the human-side terminal, labeled “Kinetic Logistics,” was ticking toward zero when the crew opened the crate.

The container didn’t stay put. Alarms tore through the cargo bay as it slid free of its slot, hauled by an external drone that had no authorization to be there — every drone on the station had been silently taken offline moments before. Six jumped the widening gap and rode the container out into open space. Inside, he cut the relay apart with his vibro-axe before a corrosive substance from ruptured cylinders could reach the evidence, and carved two fragments free of the alien-side wall before the countdown ran out. The moment it did, a flash of light consumed the container — station sensors logged it as a vortex event — and it was gone. Six escaped clear on his suit thrusters seconds before.

What “Kinetic Logistics” is — a real shipping firm, a shell, or a label meant to mean nothing at all — nobody on the crew has been able to confirm.

Properties

  • Cargo rack: four slots, three empty, one occupied by this container.
  • Interior: split construction — human-standard comms racks on one side, non-human melded material on the other, joined by Mysterious Relay.
  • Self-destruct/evidence-scrub cylinders: released Corrosive Goo on rupture.
  • Countdown: labeled “Kinetic Logistics,” expired the moment the container vanished.
  • Current status: destroyed/departed — vanished in a vortex event; no longer recoverable.
