Overview

Mounted inside the Kinetic Logistics Container, this relay was the literal bridge between two worlds of technology sitting side by side in the same box. One side was unmistakably human — standard communications hardware, bolted into racks, wired together with the kind of haste that suggested it had been installed recently and in a hurry. The other side was built into the container wall itself, its material and shape unlike anything on the crew’s equipment manifests, marked with symbols none of them could read.

A countdown labeled “Kinetic Logistics” was running on the human-side terminal when the crate was opened, ticking toward some kind of completion. With the container breaking free of the station and cylinders in the back starting to rupture, Six made a call: rather than trying to work out which connection mattered, he cut all of them. Red, blue, green — every cable joining the two systems went under his vibro-axe before the spreading Corrosive Goo could reach the evidence first.

What the relay was actually for — what it was sending, or to whom — went with the container when it vanished in the flash of light that followed the countdown’s expiry.

Properties
