Big Willie's Jellyfish Adventure

Description

A tourist office on the docks of Furosuto Supaia and the boat that sails from it: a modified industrial fishing vessel with observation decks bolted on, cramped bunks, a fence and netting along the rails, and a flat rear deck with heat blasters and a caged crane for lifting jellyfish out of the water.

What’s Here

• The counter: Bertha books the excursions. A day trip is 105 credits and the overnight packages cost more; bringing your own survival gear earned a forty-credit discount.
• Safety drills: suits are inspected, and tourists are tested on donning them fast, climbing and swimming in gear before they board.
• The boat: captained by Big Willie, with two rough old deckhands. They grind blocks of ice with jellyfish flesh frozen inside and shovel the slurry over the stern to bring the blooms up.
• The crane: simplified and caged for tourists, who take turns lifting a jellyfish for a photograph.
• The souvenir stand: t-shirts, plushies, tea towels, bumper stickers, fuzzy jellyfish and bottled jellyfish liquor.

• Session 12 - That Would Be a Mistake — Six and Marlo Petrak took the overnight excursion. Six passed the drills, shovelled chum with the deckhands, craned up a jellyfish unaided, photographed every tourist aboard and stood at the front of the group photo before one of the giants. Adelina Feliciano was among the tourists, keeping her face hidden. Station security later searched the boat on the crew’s tip and found nothing.
