Overview
The close of The Goodwin Contract. Six set Peter Goodwin face down on a stack of boxes in Storage B-342 without ceremony and went outside to hose off. Shackleton Magellan arrived soon after, through a service gate on a false identity, seconds before the whole area went into lockdown. Roselyn Monroe waited with a hose and a look of profound exasperation.
What Happened
- The delivery. Monroe confirmed the delivery, then stepped outside to speak with someone. Rock Lavey listened and heard a man ask whether the job had been done quietly. Monroe replied that they had gotten who he wanted.
- Romeijn. The man who came through the door was Major Leonard Romeijn, commander of Federal Fleet Base Aethel and the highest-ranking Federal Navy officer in the system. Rock recognised him from news footage at the Firetemic Tower after the kidnapping. He confirmed Goodwin’s identity, had him loaded into a crate on a hover cart, and wheeled him away. At the door he turned back and told the crew they had twenty-four hours to leave his station before he would be obliged to turn them over to the planetary authorities.
- Six’s read. After Romeijn left, Six said flatly that the man had put federal troops, Dreadnought battle suits included, on them while they finished his mission, and had been willing to let the whole operation go down in flames. The crew took that in and had a ship to catch.
- The Albatross. An hour later Monroe arrived at The Albatross with a bag of equipment and a legal Federal Transponder, installed it beneath the hull, and registered it under Shackleton’s name. She handed Shackleton the Job Network Frequency Code, told the crew she expected them to come when she called, and warned them to dump the ship and run to the edges of known space.
- The news. The evening report credited four Aethel Safety Bureau officers with dismantling a Bamboo Union tunnel smuggling operation. One officer had a knee injury. The crew said nothing.
- The choice. Six argued for leaving the system at once but acknowledged the need for credits. Two postings were open: a 1,000-credit cargo run to Peric IV D and a 5,000-credit contract to Betelgeuse II that required two armed guards aboard. Marlo Petrak, present as a provisional crew member, described Peric IV D as a moon of violent weather swings and low-stakes opportunities, and Betelgeuse II as a high-end ocean world with underwater settlements, and advised caution. The crew took the Peric IV D run. The Bamboo Union workers loaded Firetemic Cargo Crates into the hold, and the delivery contact codes changed hands.

Outcome
Monroe’s side of The Goodwin Contract is paid: the Albatross now has a legal identity in the Federal Republic’s records. The crew hold a 24-hour clock from Romeijn, a job on the network, and a hold full of Firetemic crates.
Leonard Romeijn is Roselyn Monroe’s unnamed contact from Session 7 and the man who ordered Peter Goodwin taken. Confirmed at the Session 9 wrap-up review (2026-09-21).
