Grazer Pistol (Pattern)

Current Holder: n/a — weapon pattern, not an instance

Origin: Unknown maker; fielded by Kinetic Logistics

Overview

A hand-built gamma-ray laser sidearm recovered from Kinetic Logistics operatives in the Thides System, and the clearest physical evidence that somebody in the system is fielding weapons the Federal Republic does not manufacture.

It carries no federal markings and no security grips, and it shows none of the tooling regularity of a production run. Shackleton Magellan, examining a recovered unit, judged it hand-crafted rather than manufactured, and could not fully account for the technology driving it. The safety is not where a Republic armourer would put it, and hunting for it by trial risks locking the weapon shut permanently.

Capability

Well above the local technology base. It defeats armour that stops conventional beam weapons outright, fires far faster than a service sidearm, and runs off a standard C cell. Its atmospheric reach is short, a couple of hundred yards at best, but in vacuum it stays effective at ranges measured in tens of miles, which makes it a boarding and station weapon rather than a field one. It is light enough to conceal under worn armour, which is how three of them passed a station security sweep in one afternoon.

Pattern corresponds to the TL12 graser pistol in GURPS Ultra-Tech. Legality class 3 even where it is legal at all, which is nowhere a station guard could explain carrying one.

Known Circulation

Julija Borja’s briefing placed weapons of this pattern at targeted killings of high-ranking individuals across the sector — putting them well outside the Thides System and well outside any single smuggling operation. Kinetic Logistics operatives carried them during the ambush in the Shipping and Receiving Sector aboard MacMillian Station IV.

Three units are known to have been recovered in the Thides System: two working and one damaged. The damaged unit was taken into federal evidence by Marshal Julija Borja and left the system in her case files after the Pratrock Dynamics takeover.
